Clay portrait workshop at The Claypit with George Triggs
In collaboration with The Claypit, George will be offering a new two-day clay portrait sculpture workshop from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April 2024.
Having taught sculpture at The Art Academy in London previously, George is excited to be drawing on his teaching skills and expertise to deliver, what is sure to be, a fascinating and engaging experience for all.
Over the two days, participants will be working from a life model and introduced to the fundamental skills needed to create a half life-sized portrait sculpture in clay. This will include understanding the principles of proportion, anatomy and measuring, as well as experimenting with a variety of tools and mark making techniques to add expression and detail. On completion, participants will take home their completed half life-size bust in professional airdry clay (which can be fired at an additional cost).
Talking about the workshop, George said: “It’s been over 10 years since I taught sculpture at The Art Academy, and it feels like the right time to revisit this role. I’m looking forward to sharing my skills and inspiring budding artists to keep exploring their creativity through figurative sculpture.”
The workshop is suitable for beginners interested in developing basic skills in clay portraiture, as well as those with experience who wish to build on their existing skills.
There are only eight spaces available, so early booking is strongly advised. Places can be reserved by contacting The Claypit in Oswestry.
