The Artist
Throughout his career, Triggs has been widely praised for his work as an innovative and progressive sculptor. He has produced a catalogue of public sculptures as well as personal works of art, earning him first place in the Founders’ Sculpture Prize 2012/13, and finalist for the V&A Sculpture prize 2007, thereby establishing himself as an exciting presence and formidable talent in modern British figurative sculpture.
Biography
Born in 1983, Triggs studied sculpture at the Camberwell College of Arts and further refined his artistic skills at The Art Academy in London. He went on to work as a resident artist at The Art Academy as well as teaching courses in life drawing, figurative sculpture, and film in art.
Working predominately in bronze but also resins, interactive projection, glass, wax and plaster, Triggs’ mastery of materials and technical knowledge are expertly used to convey the complexity of his work. Triggs constantly pushes the boundaries of the materials he works with and confronts the traditional figurative format as he explores the human condition.
The contrast his sculptures exhibit – through visual magnetism, combined with physical extremes – heighten the emotion and the perception of the concepts they portray.
Through his work, Triggs’ tackles our most revered emotions head on and, in doing so, delivers works of great beauty and profound meaning.
In life we grasp at happiness; glimpse clarity and often find out inner selves through life’s most severe trials. The hope, humanity and imagery that pulls us through are paramount to me. These are qualities I try to capture in the life of each sculpture, along with the realisation that these moments change us, claim part of us, and define who and what we are.
